Home: Maps of belonging

This body of work explores my relationship with the place I now call home. It is a place of big sky, murmurations, pebbly beaches, shells, oysters and grassy wetlands. While painting I found myself musing on a scripture: "The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places." It felt right. It also might explain all the lines that kept cropping up in these compositions.  Perhaps they are my way of mapping out a geography of belonging. In these paintings I have explored that desire to belong to a place and a people, even when in many ways I will always be a nomad, an outsider. What does home mean? Is this home? Perhaps everything I need is right here.
